Ed Hightower was asked by the IEEE-CVT Dallas Chapter to give an update to the presentation he originally gave in April 2013. There’s been a lot exciting developments since then but there were 3 main focuses:
1) improvements in remote devices,
2) new networks like Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) from SigFox, NWave, OnRamp, etc., and finally
3) explained how application platforms are moving from vertical focus supporting only one set of inputs or domain to becoming horizontal platforms with powerful development and management tools that will enable application developers can create solutions by combining various functions, data sets and inputs to create insights and solutions not possible before.
